Written Exam (on-line or paper)

Practical Exam

Your practical exam will cover the standard ASME B30.5, B30.2 and B30.3 Hand Signals.

Advanced Rigger Exam Outlines

The Advanced Rigger written exams cover the following topics:

Written Exams (on-line or paper)

1. Determining Load Characteristics: 32%

  • Estimate load weights
  • Estimate center of gravity
  • Identify lift points and mating of rigging equipment
  • Determine and select rigging based on load share

2. Rigging Method: 34%

  • Demonstrate knowledge of proper load control techniques
  • Complex hitch configurations
  • Tensions based on rigging angels
  • Rigging equipment capacities
  • Load integrity
3. Planning & Executing Routine/Non-Routine Lifts: 34%
  • Properly select slings and rigging hardware
  • Perform operations that involve rotation or inverting a load with hoists, cranes or other lifting equipment
  • Properly select and use jacking and rolling equipment
  • Transfer loads with hoists (drifting)
  • Preliminary selection of load path

Practical Exam

The hands-on Advanced Rigger practical exam requires completing the following tasks:

  • Challenge 1 – Rig the Load
  • Challenge 2 – Attach Tagline(s) & Conduct Pre-lift Meeting

  • Challenge 4 – Remove, Re-inspect and Return Rigging
