Become a Practical Examiner

If you are experienced in crane operation or have crane-related experience, you may apply to become a CIC Practical Examiner. As such, crane operator trainers are welcome to apply.

As a CIC Authorized Practical Examiner you will be able to conduct exams at any authorized Practical Exam site. This is an opportunity for potentially lucrative work for people who are objective and level in their observation and are dedicated to safe and effective crane operation.

Local crane operations may want to have local practical examiners for convenience and cost savings.

Process

To become a CIC Authorized Practical Examiner:

  1. Review the Qualifications and Responsibilities listed on this web site.

  2. Complete a Practical Examiner Application

    1. Application includes training registration
    2. Mail Application and fee to CIC to have it approved

  3. Successfully complete the CIC Practical Examiner Training and test

  4. Pass the CIC written exams for the crane types for which you will be an examiner

You should apply to become a Practical Examiner six (6) weeks in prior to first exam that you plan to give.

Upon completion of all the requirements, you will be authorized to administer exams for five (5) years with periodic audits by CIC to ensure ongoing compliance with standards. To maintain accreditation, Authorized Practical Examiners must administer at least 3 exams every year.

CIC Makes it Easy

CIC has successfully developed an efficient process for gaining Authorized Practical Examiner status from a single application for all aspects of the process to a training format that allows you to meet all requirements at one time. After your Authorization, CIC continues to support your success with individual follow up, your own web resources, and support line.
