Practical Exam Site - Responsibilities

Each Practical Exam site must have a designated Practical Site Coordinator.

Practical Exam Site Coordinator

Responsibilities:

  1. Apply for the site approval (with site supervisor, if different)
  2. To be the CIC contact person
  3. Schedule the candidate, examiner, crane and test site prep
  4. Collect local site fees
  5. Ensure that the waiting area, course and crane are set up on exam days (Set-up can be completed by others, but the Site Coordinator is responsible in seeing that it is completed.)

Practical Examiners are responsible for the actual exams. The Site Coordinator will contact a Practical Examiner to conduct the exams. Sites can have CIC train one or more of their employees to become Practical Examiners or they can select from a list of certified Practical Examiners.

A proctor is also needed for exams. The Site Coordinator may, but does not need to be, the proctor.

Once your site is approved, the Site Coordinator will be emailed a username and password to enter their own CIC web site containing all the information needed for Site Coordination (for example the complete Practical Site Coordinator Handbook, the complete list of all practical examiners, and forms) and registering exam candidates.

Additional Details

  1. Go to Application when you are ready to apply. You will need to print, complete, and return your application by mail.

  2. The Site Coordinator will identify the dates that Practical Exams are available on the application and can add and delete dates on an ongoing basis.

  3. The Site Coordinator needs to be reasonably accessible to schedule exams and to be local to the site.

  4. Candidates will register for practical exams on the CIC web site. Site Coordinators may also register candidates on the CIC web site. CIC will then send an email to the Site Coordinator requesting a practical exam for one of the dates offered by the site.

The Site Coordinator will then be responsible for scheduling a specific time with the candidate, a certified CIC Practical Examiner, and proctor. The Site Coordinator will also be responsible for ensuring that the test site is available, the appropriate crane is set up on site, and that the course is laid out. Note that the Site Coordinator does not have to set up the crane or course, but they must ensure that it is done.

  5. The Site Coordinator is responsible for billing and collecting the fees for the site and practical examiner, unless other arrangements are made with the Practical Examiner. Sites and practical examiners can set their own fees. CIC charges for scoring and reporting the exam at the time of registration.

  6. The Site Coordinator needs to ensure that the materials needed for Site Prep are purchased and painted prior to the exam date. The Site Coordinator also needs to have available, the required information for the crane (load chart and crane owner manual) and description of exam to be given. Specific details on these tasks are described in the Candidate Handbook that is available to authorized sites.

A site may use any type of crane as long as it is able to achieve the required boom length for the exam being offered.
